Couple Acquitted of Assault on Repo Men

Gainesville, GA – 10 June 2021 – A Hall County couple were acquitted were acquitted on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of serious injury by vehicle from charges related to an August 2019 incident that occurred during the attempted repossession of their Chevrolet Equinox where the defendants allegedly struck both repossessors with their vehicle as she fled.

The defendants, Patricia Renee Garrison of Gainesville, 48, and Doyle Timothy Garrison, 57, were both acquitted on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of serious injury by vehicle. Both were, however, convicted on the charge of reckless driving, and Patricia Garrison was convicted on a singular count of hit and run.

The case revolved around an August 2019 incident, when the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said two men with a repossession company were making an attempt to repossess their SUV.

During the original investigations Deputies stated; “Deputies determined that two men with a repossession company had arrived at the address to repossess the SUV. As she was leaving the location, Garrison intentionally drove the Chevrolet Equinox toward one of the men, hitting one of his legs,” according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck.

Of the two Repo Men, one allegedly struck 53 year-old suffered no injuries requiring treatment, while the second sustained injuries.

“She struck a second victim with the SUV, hitting one of his ankles and an arm.”

Emergency services transported the injured repo man, age 32, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Superior Court Judge Bonnie Oliver sentenced both defendants to 12 months with the first 30 days to be served in confinement, with credit for time served. 

Both defendants were also sentenced to five months of house arrest, with the remainder of the sentence to be served on probation.

Patricia Garrison’s attorney, Jason Wilson said that; “I think it just came down to the fact that the jury did not believe what … these repo men were saying,”.
