Tow Truck Shot Up in Repossession Attempt

Bennington, VT – 9 September 2020 – 67-Year Old man arrested after allegedly shooting out the tires of a recovery agency tow truck and threatening the recovery agent with a rifle.

Police said they were called to Nathan Drive shortly after 3 p.m. by the operator of the repossession company truck, who said a man was outside pointing a firearm at him.

Police dispatch further advised officers that the male had shot out tires on the repossession tow truck, owned by Location Services, of Burnt Hills, N.Y.

Police said dispatch advised them that Christopher Denio, 67, was driving down the driveway in a pickup truck, which officers observed coming toward them and pulling into a parking area in front of a large garage.

The truck stopped and officers apprehend Denio.

Police said they learned from people in the tow truck that the operator had a vehicle hooked up to the wrecker. While the vehicle was attached, Denio got into the vehicle and attempted to drive it off the lift, police said, and then went into a residence and obtained a rifle.

Police said Denio walked up to the wrecker, pointing the rifle at the victims. The victims stated that the barrel of the rifle was making contact with the driver side window while they were sitting inside the wrecker.

Denio then shot the driver side tire and passenger side tire, deflating each, police said. Denio was standing next the driver side door after shooting the tires, they said, and told the victims, to “drop the SUV or I’ll shoot you.”

Denio was released on court-ordered conditions to appear in Vermont Superior Court Criminal Division to answer to charges of aggravated assault with deadly weapon, criminal threatening, unlawful mischief; reckless endangerment; persons prohibited from possessing firearms, and aiming a gun at another person.
