Lake Dallas, TX – 26 February 2020 – Thursday, Barry DeGeorge, 37, was indicted on a murder charge in the December 2nd shooting and killing of recovery agent, Zachary Johnson. Police have released further details of the incident.
Lake Dallas police officers reported leaving a QuikTrip when they heard eight to 10 gunshots down the road near a Best Western Inn & Suites, where they located a tow truck that was towing a gray Nissan.
The affidavit reports that Barry DeGeorge, had yelled at Zachary Johnson and his co-worker from a third-floor window of the hotel, and that the two yelled back that they had a repossession order for the Nissan. That is when DeGeorge allegedly began shooting.
Johnson’s co-worker shouted to police when they arrived, that Johnson had been shot. DeGeorge then approached the officers and advised that his truck had been stolen the night before and admitted that he was the person that did the shooting. Officers then placed him in handcuffs and took him to the patrol vehicle.
Officers then spoke with DeGeorge’s girlfriend, who claimed that she was in the room with him when she saw him shoot at the vehicle, claiming that she told him not to shoot.
Police report that that is when another officer checked the tow truck and found Johnson slumped over the wheel and unresponsive. Two more officers then arrived and removed Johnson from the vehicle and began CPR until the Lake Cities Fire Department arrived shortly after and paramedics took over rescue operations.
Johnson was taken to Medical City Denton, where he was later was pronounced dead. The report states that he had a gunshot wound on his back.
Barry DeGeorge remains in the Denton County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
