According to the Carthage PD, at 11:22 p.m. on Tuesday the 17th in the 800 block of South Adams Street, officers discovered a tow truck running and attached to another vehicle, both unoccupied. Upon closer examination, they found 39-year-old repossession agent Jason Lewis crushed to death beneath his tow truck.

It was later discovered that the truck was in gear. It is believed that he had disconnected the transmission linkage of the repossessed vehicle while forgetting to put the tow truck in park and set the brake.

Stepping up as always, the Recovery Agents Benefit Fund (RABF) came to help with the family’s immediate need for donations and help to make funeral arrangements. But for his wife of 13 years, Allison and their five children, their world has been turned upside down, as Jason was their world and sole provider.

In his obituary, Jason is described as” a fun-loving individual who enjoyed the outdoors. He liked hunting, fishing and camping, along with telling jokes and stories. He collected guns as a hobby and during his free time he loved watching all sports, played fantasy football, and a mean game of 42. Jason was a volunteer firefighter with the Payne Springs Fire Department, where he liked to help people anytime he could,”

Funeral services for Jason are scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2:00pm at the Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas.

While the RABF have valiantly covered the expenses of the funeral, the Lewis family face huge financial burdens without him and desperately need your help. Jason had no life insurance, and he was their sole earner. For donations, a GoFundMe page has been established to cover them as they recover from this tragedy.

Please Give Generously!

A tow truck funeral procession is scheduled for Tuesday the 24th in Mabank, Texas at 3:30pm at the intersections of 501 S. 3rd St and 3rd.

Lessons Learned Through Tragedy

This is a story we have reported several times through the years and the most recent in Florida on May 3rd of 2022 when agent Brian “Rome” Marroquin died in the same manner.

I urge all agency owners and agents to share this story and that of Brian Marroquin with all staff and continuously reinforce training on safety to all staff so that it will be many more years until we must report a tragedy of this type again.
