Harrisville, UT – January 29, 2026 – Same year, same make, same model. Same parking lot they saw it pull into before losing sight of it. A near miss wrongful repo created a good deal of confusion on Wednesday.
The Harrisville Police Department responded to social media posts that lead to a reported of a carjacking last Wednesday. Upon closer examination, they discovered a story that a pair of repossession agents wish they didn’t have to tell.
According to the two unnamed agents, on Wednesday they were tailing a vehicle they had been assigned to repossess. Unfortunately, they lost sight of it as it entered a parking lot at an undisclosed location.
Canvassing the lot, they spotted a vehicle matching the vehicle they had been tailing. Quickly trying to pick it up, the driver emerged and apparently a video of the incident was captured.
Fortunately, they recognized their mistake and left it. Within moments, they finally found the correct vehicle and took possession. But that didn’t stop the video from gaining the public’s attention and assumptions of an attempted carjacking quickly circulated.
Investigating officers stated that the repossessors “expressed clear regret for the confusion and concern their actions caused.”
Police said they understood why it caused concern and thanked the community for reporting suspicious activity.
“We appreciate the community’s concern and their willingness to look out for one another. Public awareness and prompt reporting are essential parts of keeping Harrisville safe,” officials said.
