Cape Elizabeth, ME – November 6, 2025 – “It’s broad daylight, it’s a nice neighborhood near a school, I’ve got a four-month-old baby in my tow truck, it’ll be a quick repo, what could go wrong?”, He must have thought. Well, plenty, and it could have ended in tragedy.
According to the Cape Elizabeth police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 12:30 pm on Wednesday at 21 Longfellow Drive, near Cape Elizabeth’s school campus.
By all accounts, the repossession had gone smoothly, and the agent was pulling safely away with his assigned unit. But that’s when things went sour. Police alleged that 61-year-old Roger Dickinson opened fire on the tow truck through the window of his house.
Police report that at least one shot was fired, while sources close to the agency state that there were three.
But just as startling, police found that inside the tow truck was a woman and a 4-month-old baby. There is no mention of the agent’s relation to the woman, the child or why they were with him.
Police, along with officers from the South Portland Police Department and Southern Maine Regional SWAT Team, responded to the home and established a perimeter. In addition, three nearby schools went on active shooter safety protocol.
After a brief standoff of about an hour, Dickinson exited the house and was arrested without incident. Dickinson was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
It is also reported that officers located items inside the house at the scene that were deemed suspicious. The Portland Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit responded out of an abundance of caution. Officers eventually found that the items did not present any threat to the community.
