Columbia, MO – July 28, 2025 – Sometimes the best way to recover collateral is to simply go to the door and ask. And sometimes that’s a bad idea as one person found out the hard way.
Last Thursday, an unnamed person attempting to repossess a trailer went to the rural address of an Auxvasse man. Having trouble finding the address, he asked a neighbor for directions which got him right where he needed to go.
Arriving at the residence, the man knocked on the door attempting to make contact to arrange for the repossession of the trailer. But when no one answered, he turned to leave.
Be careful what you ask for, the saying goes. Out of the house charged Clayton Lehenbauer armed with a gun. Allegedly firing four shots in the area of the man, he man wisely fled. But Clayton wasn’t done with him and got into his car and began chasing the man who finally escaped and called police.
The following day, an arrest warrant was issued for Lehenbauer. His charges include two felonies and a misdemeanor; unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.
A witness, the same who gave the man directions stated to police that soon after he gave directions to the man he heard four or five shots being fired.
Lehenbauer allegedly also admitted to firing the gun and chasing the victim, the statement says.
