Surviving the Repossession Industry – A Test of Strength

Think of the people you admire most, those who inspire you to lead, to strive, to believe. They are not defined by luck or ease; they are defined by endurance.

A day in the life of a person in the asset recovery industry, any person from an agency owner to a field agent or support employee, is not easy. I remember hearing our instructors in military school say, “The only easy day was yesterday”. That saying, in my opinion, sums up every day in the recovery industry.

In my many years in this industry I have found that the recovery industry has a way of testing our strength. It seems that just when we feel we’ve given our all and can’t go a step further, these are the times when the road we have chosen to take feels uphill and very steep, when every step we take to move forward feels like a battle.

If we are to be successful in our endeavors, we must recognize that these feelings are not signs to stop, not signs to falter, and certainly not signs to give up and quit.

If we are to be successful in this perilous industry, we must recognize these signs are invitations to call on our inner strength, to consider the issues we have faced in the past and revel in the fact that we won those battles and have the power to overcome any obstacle placed in our path.

You see, it all comes down to persistence and persistence isn’t just about refusing to quit; it’s about choosing to believe in your purpose even when results are nowhere in sight. Every leader, every achiever, every winner who’s ever made a difference has faced the same issues that we are faced with today.

The fact is that progress rarely comes in straight lines. I have found that in the recovery industry you must be a broken-field runner. Some days you’ll sprint and dodge; others, you’ll charge straight on.

The key to prevailing and the major factor for success is that you keep moving, no matter how slow, no matter how uncertain, you continue advancing toward your goal.

Every effort, every small push forward will compound and the efforts you put forth today. Though your persistence may not provide the desired results tomorrow, it will, in time, reward that persistence and patience with growth beyond your imagination.

When you have had one of “those days” and you feel stuck or defeated, remember that persistence is not about never falling; it’s about always getting back up.

We, as members of the Eagle Group XX/USA, will always stand ready to support each other and as our motto says, “One for all and all for one” we grow stronger not in our victories, but in our struggles. Every challenge refines us, every failure instructs us, and every setback shapes the wisdom that guides us forward. It’s in the quiet moments of perseverance, when no one is watching, that true greatness is forged.

Think of the people you admire most, those who inspire you to lead, to strive, to believe. They are not defined by luck or ease; they are defined by endurance. They dared to keep walking when the path disappeared. They understood that the mountain is conquered not by speed, but by steadfastness. As a member of the Eagle Group XX/USA the strength and power of an Eagle lies within you. This power, this resilience waits to be awakened each time you choose to continue to continue.

Always remember the old Chinese proverb, “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” — Confucius
