19 Year Old Borrower and Sister of Raheem Jackson taken into custody

Columbia, SC – June 17, 2024 – The investigation on the murder of Steven Hughes just took a turn as the borrower was arrested Monday morning. With the Sheriffs Department naming her as a suspected co-conspirator, this case is beginning to resemble the September 2023 set-up murder of St. Louis Repossessor Jesse Jones.

Early Monday morning, SRT and Fugitive Task Force personnel attempted to serve a search warrant at the home of borrower of the vehicle attempting to be repossessed, 19-year-old Essence Jackson, in the 7200 block of Fairmont Road in the Capitol View neighborhood, off Leesburg Road in Columbia. The same location where Hughes was murdered.

Jackson was not located at the home during the search warrant execution but was located at a secondary location soon after. She was taken into custody without further incident, charged with murder and booked at Alvin S Glenn Detention Center.

She is the second arrest made in this case and is the sister of Raheem Jackson, 20, who was arrested and charged with murder of 46-year-old Steven Hughes on June 12th.

Jackson is being named a “co-conspirator contributing to actions that occurred that evening.” She is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center along with her brother.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
