Sumter County, SC – May 3, 2025 – With the vehicle secured, the repossession seemed to have gone off without a hitch. But the car that followed them had other plans. Gunfire and a red dot laser drawn on them as the driver attempted to force them off the road, things got ugly really fast.
The sheriff’s office reports that deputies responded to a report of gunfire on Two Mile Road where an unnamed repossession agent had reported to dispatchers that they had just repossessed a vehicle and that they were being pursued and shots were fired.
According to the agent’s report to dispatch, they were heading north on Interstate 95 when the alleged shooter, later identified as 30-year-old Md Z Islam Epte, of Lynchburg, allegedly began shining a light with a laser red dot at them, trying to force the victim off the road.

South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office immediately positioned units near mile marker 164 where Troopers and deputies were able to detain Epte during a traffic stop.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found an AR-style rifle and a handgun.
Epte was arrested and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm. He was later booked at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and released on a $10,000 bond.
Deputies report that the incident remains under investigation.

Of note, is that Sumter County SC is the same place where 45-year-old recovery agent for Silverhawk Towing and Recovery, Todd Showell, was shot dead by an 81 year old man that claimed they had the wrong vehicle in 2012.
