La Porte County, IN – June 17, 2025 – Early Saturday morning, a man climbed the fence of an unnamed repossession agencies yard. Backing into the locked gate a second time, he broke free. Now, police are looking for the vehicle which is believed the female borrower enticed the man to steal.
According to La Porte County Police, video footage received from a security camera showed a man climbing over the fence of a repo yard early Saturday morning. Going straight to a 2024 Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle with the keys, he plowed into the gate.
After a second ramming of the gate, the chain and padlock burst open and he sped away.
Police report that the SUV was later detected by a license plate reading flock camera entering St. Joseph County on Indiana 2. The vehicle was initially repossessed in South Bend.
Police believe the borrower had enticed the man who jumped the fence and stole the car, identified by distinctive neck tattoos into stealing it back for her due to his possession of the keys.
No arrests have been made but the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted as part of the ongoing investigation, police said.
