Repo Agency Owner Charged with Murder

Greenville, SC – May 28, 2024 – At approximately 8am on Tuesday morning, a body at a home in Travelers Rest. By 1:30, police in SWAT gear were raiding a repossession agency reportedly owned by their suspect.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office report to have arrived at a residence at on Velo Way, in Travelers Rest where they discovered the body of 40-year-old Colleen D’Orton, the victim of a murder.

Investigators then reportedly discovered evidence linking both 39-year-old Michael Clarkson and 38-year-old Cherith Crown to the death of the D’Ortona.

At 1:30 they conducted a raid on a business at 3216 New Easley Bridge Rd. in nearby Greenville. Police in SWAT gear successfully breached and cleared the business and forensic investigators gathered evidence. The identified business are two repossession agencies operating under the name South Carolina Finance Adjusters and, Mid Atlantic Asset Recovery, LLC.

According to the first news reports, Clarkson was the owner of this company. Oddly, Mid Atlantic’s website article states that their President is Colleen Clarkson. Identical first name and his last name.

At 3:30pm Clarkson and Crown were arrested at a Day’s Inn by Greenville County deputies with the assistance of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in Anderson County.

Clarkson has been charged with murder and Crown is charged with accessory after the fact of murder and obstruction. Both are being held at Greenville County Detention Center.

Additional charges are expected against Clarkson.

Both Clarkson and Crown are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Suspicious

While the motives and details of how this tragedy continue to unfold, it looks like a love triangle, or a break-up gone bad. But two sources have revealed some alleged recent interactions with Clarkson that demonstrated some erratic behavior well before this.

It was reported to me that Clarkson had recently made death threats to an employee of one large national repossession forwarding company. They had subsequently closed out all of their assignments with Clarkson’s South Carolina Finance Adjusters.

A search of the Crown showed no background, but the victim, D’Ortona and Clarkson on BizHub provided a rather lengthy history of the two by a user named Kristin G., four years to this day. It provides some very salacious allegations of criminal history by both of them.
