New York Justice Math: 11 Damaged Vehicles + a Stolen Tow Truck = Probation and Anger Management Classes
Brooklyn, NY – October 1, 2025 – It’s been just over a year since an East Islip, NY man was caught on video threatening a repossessor before stealing his tow truck and leaving a trail of destruction up and down the street as he attempted to flee. And in true New York legal fashion, he’s managed to avoid prison time completely showing that just about anything goes in the Big Apple.
It was back on September 6th of last year that we reported to you a violent incident involving 55-year-old Russell Laiosa of East Islip, NY that occurred as the now identified repo agent, Paul Corsello, was attempting to repossess his Silverado pickup. The incident, caught on several cameras.
The video documents a borrower confronting and threatening the agent, Corsello and ordered him to “put [his] f***ing truck down” . Seconds later, Laiosa jumped behind the wheel of the tow truck.
As shown on the video, the borrower careened down the street in the tow truck like a pinball, slamming into multiple cars parked along the street, he caused damage to eleven cars before defeating the whole purpose of his rampage.
During the mayhem, Laiosa turned the corner in the tow truck with his own truck still on the wheel lift and with the tires not strapped down. His truck then fell from the wheel lift and flipped off the lift and onto its side. Laiosa quickly abandoned the tow truck and fled on foot.
After a weekend in hiding, Lairosa was eventually apprehended.
He had been booked on 1 count of robbery in the second degree, 1 count of grand larceny auto, 2 counts of reckless endangerment, and 11 counts of property damage and leaving the scene of an accident.
While Laiosa had originally pleaded not guilty to the charges, last week, he copped a deal with prosecutors. Laiosa is scheduled to be sentenced on November 3 for the third-degree felony.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, but Laiosa’s plea deal does not call for a term of incarceration. Prosecutors instead have agreed to a sentence of three years probation and fines and the completion of an anger management course.
Probation? Anger management courses? Court records show that Laiosa has previously been involved in a variety of legal actions; bankruptcy, foreclosure, unpaid bills, motor vehicle torts as well as a couple of prior arrests, according to New York City police.
Nothing new in the repossession industry. Just another complete miscarriage of justice. Nothing more to see here folks!
