Borrower Flees Repo and Crashes into Building

Richmond, VA – July, 29, 2014 – In his desperation to keep his car, a borrower inadvertently lost control of it and crashed into a Housing Authority building.

Wednesday morning, a car slammed into the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority building, crashing into an office space. The driver, presumed to be the borrower is still on the run after fleeing the scene.

Around 12:45 a.m. on July 23, police report that a car was being repossessed by a company when an unknown person jumped in and tried to drive off.

The unnamed driver lost control of the car and crashed into the RRHA building, located on Hardwood Street. As a result, the building was condemned by building inspectors.

The driver fled the scene on foot; police have not released any identification information on this person.

A statement from RRHA reads in part:

“RRHA staff is currently underway with a thorough review of information received from the City of Richmond and the Richmond Police Department which has allowed for an assessment of the site and implementation of necessary steps to abate the emergency and ensure a secure and safe environment.”
