Founded at a time when the recovery industry was most fractured, the North American Repossessors Summit (NARS) has evolved into the industry’s most unifying event of the year. NARS launched in 2009 by industry pioneers Les McCook and Art Christensen and emerged during a tumultuous era for the repossession industry.

At the time, five national associations, the American Recovery Association (ARA), Allied Finance Adjusters (AFA), Eagle Group XX, National Finance Adjusters (NFA), and Time Finance Adjusters (TFA) dominated a fiercely competitive landscape.

Repossession directories drove agency marketing, forwarders held a modest market share, and collaboration between associations seemed unthinkable. So much so that at the early gatherings, security was present to help ensure emotions were kept in check.

The Winds of Change

In the years that followed, NARS has transformed the industry. The NFA and TFA merged into the ARA, state associations have flourished, and the remaining national groups, the AFA, ARA, and Eagle Group XX, began aligning on shared challenges.

Lenders and forwarders, once wary of attending, now play active roles in the summit. Over the past sixteen years, what began as a tense, divided gathering has evolved into a unifying force for progress.

It’s evolved so much that now security will be present at NARS to ensure the 800+ people attending all have registration badges to get in.
